Jane Austen’sbeloved classic opens with this witty and very memorable line: “It is atruth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of agood fortune, must be in want of a wife.” With all the twists and turnsof a soap opera, Pride and Prejudice chronicles the drama thatensues when the wealthy bachelor Mr. Darcy moves close to the Bennetfamily home in the English countryside. The news of his arrival sendsthe socially ambitious Mrs. Bennet-whose main concern is findingsuitable matches for her five daughters-into overdrive.
The book’smain character, the high-spirited Elizabeth Bennet, is a strikinglymodern heroine: a woman who refuses to lower her expectations ortransform herself to suit society’s norms. Austen’s novel achieves aremarkable balance, serving up barbed criticism of the obsession withmoney, status, and matrimony even as it draws us into a swoon-worthylove story. At its heart, Pride and Prejudice is a romanticcomedy, and a darned great one at that. It’s so much fun to turn thepages and wonder about Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy: Will they or won’t theyovercome their excessive pride and initial prejudices to make ahappily-ever-after connection?

  • Great book!

I stopped the reading once at my junior year. And I do wish I have read the book before I entered the university. It’s really good book about pride and prejudice.

I don’t read for pleasure but it was surprising how difficult I found myself to put down,
  • Love story with complications

I really loved the story even though I am not one to dive into romance books. This book offered some good love stories: one happy at the beginning, one with a rocky middle story and of course the one that was unexpected. I really liked this novel and it kind of inspired me to go looking for love.

The English it’s written is has never been my strength in reading, but the more I read the easier it was to understand, and the outcome was a beautiful story of two very different people. Very happy I finally read the story I’ve heard so much about.

The romantic aspect of the book is what interested me at first, but the drama and the characters growing and learning is what sucked me into their world. The detail describing the place or the people and their emotions make you feel as if you are there with the characters. The relationship between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy is something you read about and don’t want to stop reading about. The passion and fire between the two is something I hope to have.

Not to be dramatic, but Pride and Prejudice is the greatest book of all time, and you have not truly lived until reading it. I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the words, which laid the foundation for my love of Jane Austen. It was too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew It had begun.
  • I wish I could wipe my own memory so I could read it for the first time again

This is one of those books that makes you truly feel invested. One of those books that makes you look at the themes within it, in this case love, personal will, and duty, at work in your own life. READ IT.
